    Study of leptonic CP violation

The "complementary" Ansatz, Tr(Mν)=0(M_\nu)=0, where MνM_\nu is the prediagonal neutrino mass matrix, seems a plausible approximation for capturing in a self-contained way some of the content of Grand Unification. We study its consequences in the form of relations between the neutrino masses and CP violation phases.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure, talk at MRST200

A potential test of the CP properties and Majorana nature of neutrinos

The scattering of solar neutrinos on electrons may reveal their CP properties, which are particularly sensitive to their Majorana nature. The cross section is sensitive to the neutrino dipole moments through an interference of electro-magnetic and weak amplitudes. We show how future solar neutrino experiments with good angular resolution and low energy threshold, such as Hellaz, can be sensitive to the resulting azimuthal asymmetries in event number, and could therefore provide valuable information on the CP properties and the nature of the neutrinos, provided the solar magnetic field direction is fixed.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figure, eq. Vote-Buying and Reciprocity

While vote-buying is common, little is known about how politicians determine who to target. We argue that vote-buying can be sustained by an internalized norm of reciprocity. Receiving money engenders feelings of obligation. Combining survey data on vote-buying with an experiment-based measure of reciprocity, we show that politicians target reciprocal individuals. Overall, our findings highlight the importance of social preferences in determining political behavior.vote-buying, reciprocity, redistributive politics, voting, social preferences

The details of extended physical processes, such as the gas dynamic flow over an airfoil, the reactive flow through a combustor, or the electric field in a multi-contact transistor, are understood by solving the differential equations of a mathematical model of the process. The accuracy of finite difference methods for the numerical solution of the equations is increased if the underlying mesh fits the region boundaries and is closely spaced in regions where the solution is rapidly varying. Automatic methods for producing a satisfactorily adjusted mesh were developed for one dimensional problems. In one simple, effective scheme of this kind the unknown function and the distribution of mesh modes are found simultaneously, the nodes being placed so that they correspond to points uniformly spaced on the solution curve. In a two dimensional generalization, the nodes correspond to points equally spaced on the solution surface in two directions that are as nearly orthogonal as possible. Examples of such meshes are shown

Leptonic CP violation in a two parameter model

We further study the "complementary" Ansatz, Tr(Mν)(M_\nu)=0, for a prediagonal light Majorana type neutrino mass matrix. Previously, this was studied for the CP conserving case and the case where the two Majorana type CP violating phases were present but the Dirac type CP violating phase was neglected. Here we employ a simple geometric algorithm which enables us to "solve" the Ansatz including all three CP violating phases. Specifically, given the known neutrino oscillation data and an assumed two parameter (the third neutrino mass m3m_3 and the Dirac CP phase δ\delta) family of inputs we predict the neutrino masses and Majorana CP phases. Despite the two parameter ambiguity, interesting statements emerge. There is a characteristic pattern of interconnected masses and CP phases. For large m3m_3 the three neutrinos are approximately degenerate. The only possibility for a mass hierarchy is to have m3m_3 smaller than the other two. A hierarchy with m3m_3 largest is not allowed. Small CP violation is possible only near two special values of m3m_3. Also, the neutrinoless double beta decay parameter is approximately bounded as 0.020 eV <∣mee∣<<|m_{ee}|< 0.185 eV. As a byproduct of looking at physical amplitudes we discuss an alternative parameterization of the lepton mixing matrix which results in simpler formulas. The physical meaning of this parameterization is explained.Comment: 12 pages, 1 figur

Anomaly induced QCD potential and Quark Decoupling

We explore the anomaly induced effective QCD meson potential in the framework of the effective Lagrangian approach. We suggest a decoupling procedure, when a flavored quark becomes massive, which mimics the one employed by Seiberg for supersymmetric gauge theories. It is seen that, after decoupling, the QCD potential naturally converts to the one with one less flavor. We study the NcN_c and NfN_f dependence of the η′\eta^{\prime} mass.Comment: 11 pages, RevTe
